Q6 Evaluation

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
After making this product I am really proud to say that I have learnt a lot on how to use new technologies.
First of all, I add to manage and control the camera I've used the first time ive had my photo shoot. At first it was very complicated as i didn't get the best cameras, I got the oldest Canon because there wasn't enough new ones so I've had to learn how to use it properly. There wasn't as many good effects and option on the camera which I had to deal with. After a couple of shots I started getting familiar with it, it was easier to use. However, as the quality wasn't good enough I've had do you Photoshop to live my pictures a little bit and give them a better look.

Photoshop has been the most challenging use of technology for me. Firstly because i have never used Phototshop CS6 before starting my product, therefore i had to learn all the key combination's and had to learn the right terms. I played with photoshop for a it of time so that I could get used to using it. For my front cover,  it was quite had because the images were a bit dry at first, it didn't look like a high quality photo, so with the help of photoshop I got to change the image which turned out good to give me a successful front cover. Here is the change. The first one looks a bit old and boring whereas what I've tired to do was make it a little more exciting for the view of the readers and to create a certain mood which I believe worked.

Once I got more comfortable with photoshop I could then edit my images and set my text out with no issue.By using the Paint Bucket Tool i painted the background to est and see which one would look the best and which one I was going to including in my product.

Tip: When using the bucket paint tool make sure the right layer is selected otherwise it might paint the whole page.

One of the hardest task on Photoshop was my layouts and how i would place my text. I would always use the grid when changing something on my page because I wanted everything on the page to be equal.I have made sure each time i was putting text in i was having the gird because i knew hat i would've made my text look way more professional than if I just set the text up without any lines

Lastly the blog! The blog was absolutely unknown to me. Althought the blog wasn't as hard as using photoshop or a camera for the first time, but the fact that you have to post regularly what you are doing to show your progress is a bit complicated to get use to it. The more I used it the better, because I tried to post at least every two days to show my class work and my evolution throughout the making. I think that the blog is a good thing to use better if you post something you can never lose it and you have a proof of every progress you are doing so I'd recommend it to anyone that does media studies.

I have made few changes to my page because looking back at it I found out that there was a lot things I wasn't happy with .This is my final double page spread.

 

This is the pull quote from my final piece, I have changed it from the original dps, I think that it looks better the way it is now because the other way didn't look that professional and clean.

 This is a change i made from the original page. As you can see I made a spelling mistake and the text isn't very clear as it is grey on grey isn't visible. Whereas the second one with the black writing is very clear.

For my first attempt I didn't include any images because i wanted to get familiar with the format and wanted to place the text before including the image. I took an image from my first photoshoot because i knew that it would suit the mood that i want to give. 

The image was set out to give out a confident attitude of feminity , as women in magazines are often represented as soft,shown as a sexual objects, therefore i wanted to go against that and give it a completely different version of the "usual women" in music magazines.

Pull quotes ideas.

This are ideas i have for my DPS. I want to include a pull quote as it attracts the readers even more. I also want a back ground meaning a will include coloured shaped behind the quote for it to have a 3D effect. 

Also i want to include at least two big quotes that are going to be in the article, but i want to make them big so they stand out from the articles.

The example below is the perfect example of an NME magazine of Mark Ronson. The way the article is lay out is one of the way I want my article to be set out because as i said the quote inside the article draws the attention of the readers which is a thing is want to do.

This is my research i have done to see different analysis of double page spread of different magazine. I have also done this research because i could take one as an example for mine as some of them are really good therefore could be a good model for my double page spread. The analysis can help me include the right things for my double page to work.

This is my research for my double page. These are the examples of what i want my double page to look like, a image on the side and the writing the other. I thinks it looks quite good and cool because when they're seperated it look cleaner and more organised because once the picture is on one side the text is easier to align the text.

Final Contents

Fixing text.

This is me trying to fix my contents page text as it was all over the place. We can see that the background is blue, i made it blue on purpose because the grids were grey and so was my back ground so it was impossible to work with the grids on top of my original background.

I changed my mind..

I decided to change the look of my contents page because the text on the original content didn't stand out and looked more like a list which isn't very exciting for they eye of a reader. So I made important things in big bold pink so the reader knows already what they will read I also removed two images because it took to much space.

EDITING IMAGE.

This is the image I chose for my main image on my contents page. I have tried to edit the background because I didn't like the original one (bottom right). I like the bottom right one because it makes her stand out the most and I think that it would suit my page better than the other ones.

I changed the way my font cover looked because the i thought that the blue didn't look nice anymore and that it would be better with an other colour scheme. I thought the black purple and grey matched together. I first tried it like that with writing set out.

 

Then i have decided to change the colour of the lines because it looked too inprofessional therefore I've put a new set out for the images and the writing. 

Second photoshoot.

This is my second photoshoot like I said in my plan for the half term. One of those photo is going to be my central image on my content page. She is going to have the main stand out focus on my page. 

Color code: She wore a burgundy hat and top because her skin tone is kind of pale so it contrasts good with that colour. 

Background: I wanted bricks as a back ground however m not sure about the colour of it because i want her to stand out from the background. Therefore, I am going to edit the background and make the colour very dark so she can stand out properly.

Contents pages photoshoot

This is my photoshoot that i have done during the half term like i planned. I wanted to have a yellowish/ beige back ground because i didn't not want any type of design behind the model as I might crop the model out to put them on my contents page.
I chose these model also because they represent my targeted audience. If i used other models it wouldn't really suited on my page because it wouldn't of had a link and it wouldn't have made much sense. I also chose their poses because on some pictures i wanted them to have attitude to create a particular mood, however on other pictures i wanted the complete opposite from them so i told them to have like a 'cheesy' type of smile. I made sure they weren't wearing the same clothes because i wanted to show that even though they are the same target group i am aiming at i wanted the audience to see that they shouldn't stereotype people by the way they dress because on is dress 'classy/ smart' and the other one is more dress 'street wear' , to show that they dressed differently but still have the same music taste.

Half term work

This is my plan for this half term.

I made a plan because I want to be organized in my work during half term, I have also made a plan because it would help me in my work, for example the case studies would strengthen  my knowledge for the film industry and would  get me more points for my final exams. I also plan to revise media terms for the first part of the exams about the camera shots/angles, editing, sound because I am quite weak for that part and i definitely want to improve on it.

Developing contents

 I have decided to change the background of my page because the other image didn't really suite with the mood I wanted my audience to have so I changed it and put a blue/green colour for my background; which changed the colour scheme of the page.

I have nearly finished typing my text. I added a new column because I saw that two wasn't enough as I was doing more research on content pages where i got my inspiration from to had another column of text.

Layouts zoom in.

This is a zoom in into my text. For the moment I have two column for the text. I have decided to layout my text like this from previous example that I have seen in previous magazines. I have also created shapes layouts depending on the length of the texts. My review section is going to be smaller than the others reason why the image is going to be larger.

Working on my contents page§

This is what my content page currently looks like.I chose to put an image in the background firstly because i wanted to try and see how it looked =, secondly because i think it would look better if someone was just in the background like other well known magazines such as Vibe. I also changed the color of the writing because the background image is quite dark, therefore we wouldn't be able to read the text properly so i changed it to white. I also have added squared layers and indicated that there was going to be images there. In my examples of contents pages there was a lot of imagery at the bottom which made the pages way more attractive for readers, this is why i want to try and add at least three images to make my page more exciting.

Improving contents..

I am getting on with my contents page. I took off the faded part because it didn't look that good and i thought it looked better like this. I have also started typing my tact from the ideas and main plan i had for my page.

Contents page first attempt

This is the start of my contents page. I have used "shaped" layout in the middle of the page to add a large image to attract the audience. I have adapted it to my target audience because i know they would like to see images, i also decided to add a big image in the middle of the page because I think that a contents page shouldn't have loads of writing but lots of images to visually show the audience what is going to be in the magazine.
I also decided to add a "circle' layout to announce how to get 2 tickets for free for Shay's next tour.  I used a circle because i knew that the audience wouldn't miss it, whereas if I wrote it as a normal text the readers probably would have missed this opportunity to see it.
The reason why i used a color fade is because i have a tried only one color and i found out that it looked plane and not eye catching enough, therefore with a fade it looks better and more exciting to look at.
Coming up next: I am going to make different layouts for the text below the image to test and see how it looks as I indicated in my plan. I am planning to do three column for the writing, but i might only do two column.

This is my contents page plan.

This is some of the design I have got from the magazines research. i took those because i like the layout and in my sketches I set it out. I want the main image in the middle of the page because i want all the attention of the readers. I also have reproduced the lines to separate the name of the texts and the actual texts.

FINAL FRONT COVER

This is my final front cover. I have tried all ideas and advices from everyone and i have come to a conclusion that this will my final front cover.

I have applied many of the music magazines conventions, therefore I believe that it will suit my target audience.
